CCEDNet Gathering Conference
Community Works was pleased to be part of this year’s CCEDNet Gathering Conference in October called Imagining our Future: Moving Towards Transformative Action. We introduced participants to digital storytelling in our workshop called Strangers No More: Stories of Culture and Identity. Thanks so much to Amna Burki for screening her story “Under My Ammi’s Wings” and for offering her profound reflections.

On August 7-8, 2025 Community Works returned to Birdtail Sioux First Nation to facilitate this workshop. This is our second visit to the community and we're delighted to return. Thanks to Tyler Hanska for inviting us back. Much thanks to all those who participated in the workshop - for your courage, honesty, thoughtful reflections, and for the stories you shared
that left the facilitator (Frances from Community Works) much wiser.
And thanks for the jokes. Great jokes.

Frances Ravinsky was delighted to be invited back for a second year of leadership at Earthsong adult singing camp hosted by United Church in Meadowood in Winnipeg, July 14 - 18, 2025. https://ucim.org/earthsong/

Participants were invited into the story circle to share stories from their own lives using different art forms as primary storytelling languages. Four storytelling workshops were structured around ecologist Joanna Macy’s themes of Coming into Gratitude, Honouring our Pain, Seeking Wisdom, and Going Forth. Frances shared some teachings on the use of personal storytelling for personal and collective healing and wellness and as maps for action.
On May 10-21, Community Works delivered the 2-day workshop Circles of Care: Supporting substance-involved women in Winnipeg with women from Dauphin Friendship Centre, Mihkoskiwakak Nehiyawak (Red Earth First Nation, Saskatchewan), Saugeen Ojibway Nation and O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation (South Indian Lake),

Thanks so much to everyone who made it out on a cold evening to Winnipeg’s Cinematheque Theatre on Jan. 13th for a screening/forum on first person digital stories by members of Winnipeg’s diverse cultural community.

Panelists Frances Ravinsky (L) and digital storytellers Hilda Mann, Guillermo Vodniza, Dawn Rolke, Amna Burki & Nilufer Rahman
"At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect ... It turns out the experience ended up being completely touching—sometimes painful, but at the same time warm and beautiful. The fact that every production emerged from a series of workshops accessible to individuals with all levels of experience in video making was just powerful…..It inspired me to keep exploring the internal world that everyone carries and to listen to what everyone has to say." - A.U., audience member
